sizing body font in css

Walter Hawn Sep 16, 2011 12:09PM PDT

I'm wanting to use Garamond as body text, with Times New Roman for fall-back. However, Garamond is smaller to the eye at the same point size. I's like to be able to specify Garamond at two points larger than TNR in the css.

Is this possible and how would it be done?

Thanks,
Walter Hawn

Hi Walter,

There is not a CSS method to control this but you should be able to use the Google Web Font Loader http://code.google.com/apis/webfonts/docs/webfont_loader.html to control the "if font does not load" scenario. I think you can use the Events section http://code.google.com/apis/webfonts/docs/webfont_loader.html#Events, specifically the fontinactive (fontFamily, fontDescription)

"Called if a requested web font failed to load. The fontFamily parameter is the name of the font family, and fontDescription represents the style and weight of the font."

The web font loader works with any web font service and you will just need to put your @font-face calls into it and style up your active and inactive Events.j

Hope that helps

Brad
